Snow
(30/31-01-2003)
Some
of you might have heard this in the news - Cambridge was brought
to a complete standstill at the end of January due to HUGE ammounts
of snow falling. It started on the Thursday morning and continued
throughout the day - sometimes a complete white out! I started my
drive home at 6PM and had to travel at 10mph because of the low
visibility and snowy roads. I saw people sliding every where, and
a number of minor crashes - not very nice. Nearing the main A14
road, the traffic came to a complete standstill for approx 2 hours
before we got going again.
But
it wasn't over yet! About 1 min away from home, a lorry got stuck
on a slight incline approaching a round-a-bout. It pulled over to
let the traffic get past - but a stupid Mercedes sports car with
big fat wheels couldn't make it up the hill either!! It was in 1st
gear, spinning its wheels and not getting anywhere. I thought about
parking the car and walking the 5 minutes home, but finally, a group
of passers by managed to push it on its way. All the cars behind
it had no problem driving up the incline, and I managed to get home
safely - 3 hours later!

During a lull in the snow, we decided
to go to Tescos!

This was the slight incline that caused
the lorry & sports car so much problem!

Friday (the day after the storm) was actually
Angela's birthday, so we'd booked the day off. I wouldn't have been
able to get to work anyway - but it meant that we could relax and
enjoy the snow.

early to watch the sun rise and see the snow before it was spoilt.
