2002 - San Francisco - First Impressions
There
are so many photos that we took of San Francisco - so we have broken
them down into a number of pages.

Angela
needed to go to San Francisco for an annual stats conference as
part of her PHD course at Lancaster University. The conference took
place in the University of California, Berkeley - which you can
see on the top right of the map above. We arrived in San Francisco
early evening and caught a Taxi to the campus.

ABOVE:
Berkeley is across the bay from the main part
of San Francisco city. From the airport we had to travel across
the Bay Bridge - you can see this as green on the map.
BELOW:
This picture was taken from the city side
of tha bay, across an island in the middle of the bay towards Berkeley.

BELOW:
While in Berkeley we stayed in the University
accomodation. This was the view from our window looking south towards
Oakland. The actual campus of the University was very pretty with
lots of trees and open spaces. It actually reminded me of Buffy's
college from the TV series! Berekely was a great place to stay -
some say it was the birth place of the hippy movement, and there
were plenty of people on the streets to back that up. Also, because
it was a university area there were plenty of trendy clothes shops
and lots of little restraunts to visit.

ABOVE
& BELOW: While
Ang attended the conference I got the underground train (BART!!)
to the city and wandered around! The picture BELOW is a monument
to remember San Francisco's firemen & women. It is supposed
to look like the end of a fire hose!

ABOVE:
The streets in San Francsico were amazing.
BELOW:
At the top of this picture is the famous street
in San Francisco that zig zags down the hill! Later on in the holiday
we did drive down the street.

BELOW:
Alcatraz - unfortunately, because it was the
middle of the summer, you had to book your trip to Alcatraz a few
days in advance - and we weren't able to do that. But we could see
if from a distance!
