2002 - Death Valley - The Mountains
Death
Valley :
1 - 2 - 3
The
scenery was quite fantastic, and once the sun had set we walked
along a road to the airport, and saw cayotes and kangaroo rats along
the way.

ABOVE:
The mountains over looking our campsite.

ABOVE
& BELOW: Sunset
over the desert.

ABOVE
& BELOW: During
the night, the temperature didn't drop below 37C, so as soon as
the sun rose we jumped out of bed and had a quick shower before
retreating to the air condioning of the car! We drove out of the
valley as quick as we could and from the mountains on the east side
of the valley the view was spectacular. The
more interesting and even sureal scenery was from Zabriskie Point
which overlooked some miniture mountains. Its very had to get a
sense of scale from the pictures but the mountains were actually
very close to us.

BELOW:
This is the view from Dante's Peak
which looks out over the salt plains of Death Valley. To give you
an idea of scale, there is a semi-circle black line in the bottom
part of the picture just below the white salt plains - this is a
two lane major road throug the valley!

ABOVE:
From Dante's Peak we drove to Death Valley
junction, and then north along the straight desert roads to Armargosa
road on the outskirts of Nellis Air Force Range and Area 51! From
there we travelled east to Las Vegas.
