Day 3 - Up the Glacier

Waking up on the morning of Day 3 we decided that it was time to climb a glacier! As we drove up the valley we caught our first glimpse in the distance - it was quite impressive.

Below & Above: Our first glimpse of the Stubai Glacier.

Above: After driving for nearly an hour up the valley we finally came across a huge car park and hotel complex. We decided that to walk up to the top would be suicide, so instead we took the cable car up the mountain.

Below: Halfway up the mountain, the cable cars suddenly stopped and the momentum of the moving car swung us back and forth violently!! It wasn't pleasant!

Above: The scenery was pretty stunning!

Below: The cable car dropped us off at the base of the glacier. At the bottom of the valley, the temperature was approx 25C, but here it was cold enough for people to ski!

Above & Below: We paused for a few photos.

Above & Below: Feeling in need of a challenge, we decided to walk up the glacier! The parts that we were aloud to walk were marked with large poles, but even so, people still fell through the ice up to their waist's when the accidently stepped on a cravace!

Above & Below: At the top we went stopped to admire the views again - and we were a little bit surprised to find a restraunt, picnic area and public toilets!! The views to the south were across to Italy.

Above & Below: On the way back we stopped off at some beautiful water falls and a lake.

That night we again walked into the village of Neustift and consumed a meal - this time it was pizza & pasta!
